MTO Safety inspections at 

Ontario Auto Market and Tires

Ontario is adopting a new standard for commercial motor vehicles.

This affects annual, semi annual and safety standards certificates inspection requirements for trucks, trailers, buses, accessible vehicles and school purposes vehicles for drivers in the Ontario area, including Kitchener, ON, Cambridge, ON, or Guelph, ON and the surrounding areas.

Some of the new requirements under the National Standard include:

• Vehicles manufactured after July 1, 2011 with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) must have ABS inspected and operating as intended to pass the inspection. On January 1, 2014 all vehicles originally equipped with anti-lock brakes will required the ABS operating as intended to pass inspection
• After-market window tinting prohibited on the windshield and windows to the immediate left and right of the driver for vehicles manufactured after July 1, 2011
• Requirement to record brake measurements; and
• Introduction of semi-annual inspection certificates to match the requirements for annual inspections
